D7000 multiple release issue

My less than a year old 7000 occasionally releases the shutter 2 to 5 times for no apparent reason when I'm shooting. Roughly once or twice a week with limited, almost daily use. The multiple exposure setting is off and release mode dial is on single. Is it a problem or poor index finger control?

Where is your Custom Setting Menu? It's under (d) shooting display and then (a7) Max. Continuous release (mine is 6 for BIF)

Holding the shot button down too long gets it going.

Mine was set on 10, for whatever reason. I think you got it when you said holding the button down too long is my problem. I'll be more conscious of that and hopefully "issue resolved." It happened so infrequently that I didn't blame it on myself! Thank you for your thoughts!

Us old time film users that were used to winding the film after a shot made that mistake many times. It took me a while to break myself of the habit.

Please don't talk about breaking old habits, my wife may be listening. Thank-you!

On my D7000 with release mode set to S and Max continuous release set to 100 (the default -- I never changed it), I can hold the button down forever and it won't fire more than once. I think the problem is elsewhere.

If the problem persists, I will definitely send it in. I may have a finger that 'does a stutter with the shutter!"

You don't have bracketing or HDR turned on by chance?

Have you tried a 2-button reset?
Hold down the 'Qual' and '+/-' (exposure compensation) buttons (both have green dots next to them) simultaneously for at least 2 seconds. The camera will return to factory defaults.

I have reset, but again, this is a very infrequent issue. I may go a week with none and then it'll happen once. The other day it happened twice. Bracketing and Hdr are not on.
