I was offered a Canon SX280 but unfortunately my "gifter" fell through due to some unforeseen circumstances. I was thrilled due to the zoom level of that camera. Can any of you tell me of your experiences with the Fuji X-S1? Currently I'm using a very old Fuji S5200 -- it's been good to me the last 8 years but it's time to move on to something else. I've struggled with going to a DSLR but don't want to deal with changing lenses, etc. I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts or input. (Obviously I"m very much a newbie to this craft).
I was seriously considering the Fuji X-S1 not long ago. Has a larger sensor that any other bridge camera (cept the new Sony RX10). The Fuji has the 2/3 inches - 12MP EXR CMOS Sensor, manual focus and zoom on the lens. It's on sale now for a really fair price, I'm sure you would love it.
Thanks for the response. I'm assuming, however, you didn't go with the Fuji. What did you choose and why?

I went with the Panasonic LX7 because the Fuji was close to $600 at the time I was looking at it.

I downsized from a lot of things these days. But... I shoot the X-S1 and love it lots. I have more respect for this camera now that I a sure I know 95% of it's secrets. And it dose have secrets! Good (I think Great) camera, just study it...and I feel you'll love it also. Thanks, Boone
I have to wait a bit longer to do this myself, but I think this is the one. I hope to get it shortly because I'm going away with family later this year and want to have the screens down pat and have had time to practice. Thanks, everyone, for your input!!
Not sure I would wait, it's about $300 off at this point and may go back above $600 again.
Where did you find the Fuji S-X1 camera in the $300+ price range?
Thank you.
That's where I saw it as well -- on Amazon. No other provider has it for even close to that price.

I've had the X-S1 for about 7 months now and love it. It reproduces colours faithfully and images are sharp. The manual-only zoom is a godsend. The only negative I have found is the autofocus - very slow at times at 26X end of its range. (I use manual focus here.) It's a solid, very well built camera. But, at a lot more bucks, also check out the Sony RX 10.

here's a shot taken with the X-S1
In doing my "homework" there's a note about the lens droop. Have you had any issues with that? The photo is amazing. Beautiful colors and very sharp.

"Lens droop" is not an issue with mine. In the initial set-up, I selected "Velvia" as the film-type. It does give the colours a subtle lift that I prefer. This was a handheld shot, so it shows the Fuji IS works very well.
