It is a Sigma lens and Sigma USA will service it. I called. However, one of their authorized repair centers will not. Go figure.

Sigma USA will service their grey market lenses, but not under warranty, you will be charged for the parts as well as the labor.

I am aware of that. However, the vendor in Hong Kong offers me the option of my returning the lens to it for service or paying to have it serviced in the US.

You must be talking about Digitalrev.com, they offer that service on all their lenses and bodies.

Indeed I am. What do you know about them?

I have bought from them myself. The only Asian supplier I trust at the moment. Their everyday prices are not enough savings to buy without USA warranties, but when they have specials they can be very worthwhile sometimes.

I bought a Nikon lens from Value Basket a HK company, it is a 80-400 FX so very heavy, they offered free shipping & delivery in 10 days & as they said they had the product in stock & it was $400 cheaper than in Australia. It ended up taking nearly 2 months with several emails & apologies etc from them but it finally arrived & is a beautiful lens but I would never buy from them again, ever!

Usually it's shipping which can be problematic with hongkong and china suppliers. China is generally slower than HK. I've had delivery times of between 7 days and 2 months.

I don't think you can blame the supplier entirely for that, there is a lot of seasonal variation between delivery times you might get lucky and have rapid processing between stops or it might sit in a warehouse for a week or two waiting for a full load to the next destination. Even insured registered delivery is no guarantee of speedy delivery.

I think my fastest and slowest shipping times were with the same supplier.
