Hi Ralph. I have also started to expand my knowledge of editing a bit, after being perfectly happy with Picasa for a long time :)

Your changed image is too high-contrast and harsh for me. You now have both dark and white areas with no detail. If you like the result, then that is the important thing, but I would have tried for a more subtle edit.

Hello Hippi. Editing takes practice. The important thing is that you have started so now you just need to learn more and refine techniques. This photo is a good one to go back to the original and practice some more. First, you can learn to straighten water line horizons, because this one is a bit slanted. Then, when you are changing colors, brightening, increasing contrast and all that good stuff, you can try different settings. The results you achieved here went too far in my opinion, and your colors are too bright. Drama and richness are good, but try not to overshoot the mark. Good luck! Looking forward to seeing more editing work from you.

It's fun getting into editing and you will find the more you do it the more you learn. It takes time and patience.

Your original does not need a lot of editing. Try bringing up the shadows in the original and taking down the brightness and then increase the saturation a little at a time.
