Is there any chance you mean an
RAW file? NEF for Nikon. You need Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) installed on your computer so Photoshop can open the file.
Yas that is what I mean a RAW file. Thank you Mac

So, yeah . . . you need Adobe Camera Raw. It doesn't come with CS3 (I could be wrong but I recall I had to d/l it when I had that version) as it does with CS5 so you'll need to locate it on the web (maybe Adobe.com).
Try this link:

I'm almost certain that Adobe Camera Raw already comes with CS3. All you have to do is update CS3 from the Adobe website.
Kayautho is correct, you just need to go to Adobe website and upgrade that part of the program. If you anything older than CS3, it is no longer supported.
It usually takes a few weeks to back engineer when a new camera is introduced on the market but I would think that model would be available at this point.
Your Nikon should have come with propriatory ViewNX software for viewing and editing RAW photos. It allows you to do conversions to JPEG etc., and many other things. Check out your box for the sofware
I have cs3 extended and it comes with "bridge" and "raw" adjustments. After understanding "raw" can not live without it.....as one knows, never work on your original files.....
Good Luck.....

I am new to working with RAW(aka NEF) and need help.
I have PS CS3 extended. I cannot open any RAW files. I had taken photos with my Nikon D90 with image quality set for NEF(RAW)+JPEG normal. All the files are downloaded. I am not clear from earlier comments if I need to get an upgrade from Adobe. Do I? Does Adobe still support CS3 extended?
Thanks in advance for any and all support.

You need to update the ACR program. Just go to their website and find the most recent upgrades for that part of the software.
Thanks, Photocat. I tried to do what you suggested and was not able to update. For reasons that we weren't able to figure out it would not let the program download. Very frustrating.
Any other ideas?
Thanks again.

Call Adobe and check with customer support.
I will give that a try. thanks.
