I received a Nikon D7100 for Christmas. I do a lot of tripod work so having a neck strap attached all the time will get in the way when I am using the tripod. I would like to use the strap when I am not using the tripod. I need to know what is a good camera strap quick release that is reliable.

I use the UPstrap, it is very strong and secure. I have not used the QR version, but if it's built as well as the regular one, it should be good.

I've used their products for several years now. They are U.S.A. made, great customer service, and great folks with whom to deal.

The OpTech line of straps is without a doubt the best USA made strap line-up available, and they also have the best pricing. The "Pro Loop" strap is the most popular model. If you like a sling type strap look at the "Utility Sling" model.

Take a look at this. My wife and I both use this with sling straps and it works great. It allows you to use your tripod or your sling without having to take off 1 and put on another etc.

As MT said, OP/TECH products are excellent. Get another camera so you can use the Double Sling. You can have a tele on the right and a wide angle on the left. All of their products are interchangeable, and they attach only one way. The male clip is on the right, and the female on the left. The shoulder piece is always the right way round.

The OP will ask Santa for a second D7100. Or maybe a refurbished D7000. He'll get it in 364 days. :-)

I use this product and easily switch between the wrist strap and sling. Excellent solution to the tripod issue

Hi RmcBUDDY,

I've had to deal with the same problem and ended up going to Tandy Leather Supply (or ACE Hardware) and purchased a couple of small swivel clips like those used on a horse or dog lead rope (but much smaller). They work great taking only about 5 seconds to attach/remove AND the cost was way less than $10.00. Take care & ...

I use the Tamrac system. 2.5" Wide Quick Detachable neoprene neck strap with nylon belt backup. Helps distribute weight of teles and can quickly detach. Also remove for the Tamrac shoulder and chest strap. The chest strap has a wide 5" belt in front with w hole in it. Slips over your camera lens keeping the camera close to your body. It is excellent for bike riding, climbing, or doors off helicopter rides.

I'm a big fan of the S-clips, but the small ones are not rated for a heavy load. The D7100 and a medium sized lens can be a few pounds. The load should handle at least three times the weight, so it can stop the camera if it slips from your hand.

I use the ones on the right on both my D3 and D800; the ones on the left with my D7100. No particular reason for the assignment, jut the way I snapped them on. I bought both kinds to see which might be better to use. My jury is still out.
