HDR photo of Lake Austin Fall Colors in December

Autumn arrives much later here. I'm a transplant from the Chicago area and have been in Austin, TX almost 22 years. One thing I've missed is the color explosion in autumn. Everything here is evergreen or just seems to turn brown. We've had a severe drought for over three years and then heavy rains the past couple of months, which has triggered fall colors that I have never witnessed here before. I shot this hand held from the back of my bass boat just after dawn on an overcast morning with my D5200 and a Nikon 18-55 VR lens at 24mm, 3 shots from -2 to +2. The HDR was done in Photomatix Pro and Lightroom 5. Hope you like it.

Beautiful!
I used to spend a lot of time on this lake in the late 60's.

Thanks guys. It's always easy to get carried away and cook HDR too much. I like it a little understated most of the time and usually try to go for pretty much what my eyes saw and brain remembers. Glad you liked it. I appreciate the encouragement. Merry Christmas!

Wow! Are you lucky. Hand held......from a boat? Great results. Catch any fish?

It WAS very calm, as you can see. It kind of surprised me too when I got back to my computer. After all, I'm 61 going on 62 (remember when we counted our age in half years?) and not the steadiest even on dry land where I use a tripod for HDR. A few fish that day, largemouth bass or blacks as they call them in the South. The deeper I get into my obsession with photography, the more my boat has become a platform for pictures and the less fishing gets done. Glad I have an understanding fishing buddy to man the trolling motor for me. There are a couple of great things about being out on the water. The sunrises and sunsets can be magnificent without urban Austin obstructions. Also, you never know what kind of bird or other wildlife you might catch in action. And, it's easy to straighten your photos in Lightroom, since water tends to be level. Thanks everybody, for the kind words.

Thanks. Here it is. Could probably use a little more work, but I got real lucky with minimal post processing. Here's another one from the same day I brightened up a little more as well.
