Checked the "search" area and can't find the info I need. Please tell me about taking cameras and extra SD cards thru Airport security and Customs/Immigration? Going on a cruise in Jan and sure don't want to lose any pics coming home. Camera will be on me and extra cards in carry-on. Thanx in advance! D^_^

The reason you can't find it, is because it's not an issue.

The last 'scare' about losing images, was with high-speed FILM, when airport security was just installing x-ray machines.
The technology has advanced a lot since then, with higher sensitivity sensors (like in your camera) requiring much lower x-ray intensity.
I've taken my cameras and cards through a number of times with no problems at all.

Agree. Is not an issue. I am not a 'frequent flyer' but do try to take a couple of trips a year and have never had a problem.

Not a problem since I've gone to digital. Only thing is I've had some TSA agents make some comments on my camera equipment. :)

From 2010-2013 I flew about 300,000 miles and carried my gear on in several different variations of Pelican or Tamrac bags, and neither my CF or SD media was damaged by the three different types of common x-ray machines used both domestically as well as internationally.

Fly with NO worries.

I traveled to/from Israel in October with a d5200, a Canon point-and-shoot, and 6 SD cards (all in carry-ons). No problems and the carry-ons went through several scanners.

Tell them to handle the camera gently since it's filled with C4. And then remind them that C4 is harmless without the detonator that is in your other bag. You might have a slight delay as their sense of humor seems to be limited.

Pounder, I'll make sure to point that out to them next time I fly! :-)
JoAnne, What have they said about your gear? :?:

never had an issue with digital cards but use a lead-lined bag for film....frankly I am more worried about the some TSA Neanderthal stealing stuff....most of the TSA is OK but they have some "Colonel Klink" types who are always looking for a 5-fingered Christmas bonus.

I've never had a problem with film nor memory cards. I'm more interested in the reaction I get when I walk through security with a back full of titanium hardware.

That I had some great equipment (primarily referring to my long telephoto lenses).

I would NOT make ANY jokes about that. Second last time I flew I made a sarcastic remark so they took me into a little room, did a strip search and asked me how much money I had. They 'fined' me as much money as I told them I had, then let me go and of course I missed my flight. The next flight was so late I had a hard time getting the shuttle bus to come and pick me up so I could get to my car. The next time I went through that airport I was flagged as a "high risk." and got the special treatment. These people have NO sense of humor, do NOT make ANY jokes about carrying explosives, you will seriously regret it.

Of course my last post WAS a joke just for this thread. I think everyone knows better than to joke around with airport security these days.
