Any one familiar with Nikon's ML-L3 Remote? I just received one and there are no instructions.

I have one also. Check your manual for the infra-red setting and when you press the button on the Ml-L3, your shutter will release.

I just also received the Vello Shutterboss that I will be using to do some Astrophotography. Fantastic piece of equipment that will do everything but serve me coffee during long repeated exposures.

I have one and used it when taking images of silicon wafers that we design (I am a chip designer). Used it with a tripod to help with vibration reduction. Probably the lowest cost Nikon item ever at $15!

Your camera has a setting for use with a remote. Once this setting is applied you simple press the remote button to take a image. The remote is IR and your camera has an IR sensor (some have 2 like the D7000). You must use the remote where the camera can "see" the IR remote.

you will find the button for your remote on the mode dial. Be sure and hold the remote in the front of the camera so the eye can see it. this is for the D 7000.

On my D90,there's a button you depress while turning the Command dial;that way you don't have to go to menu. The button is located on the top right by the display window.

Go to the Custom settings menu, Option 4 is the shooting mode. Set the remote there with or without a delay. Good luck!

Here are instructions on using the ML-L3 infrared remote. Cut and paste from the Ken Rockwell website:

The remote set up for the D40 is in the menu. Custom setting mode (pencil icon), shooting mode (#04).
