Arches national park question

I am taking my RV to Utah on Christmas day. I don't want to tow my jeep unless absolutely necessary. I thought about stopping at the Moab KOA on my way back. How far are the arches from the campground? Walking distance? Or would I need a vehicle to get to them?

I think that no matter where you camp you will need to drive in the park to see anything---it is a long way through the park[miles] to each parking area and than you have to walk to see the arches up close. If there is snow on them it should make some great contrast with all the red!

Gerald, I have no idea however, please share your photos when you get back! Arches is one of the places not yet checked off on my personal bucket list. Have fun! Paul

I don't know where the Moab KOA is, however, you will definitely need a vehicle to get through Arches. There is still a lot of walking once inside the park to get to the rock formations. Great park to see so take the jeep. You will not regret it... Share some pictures when you get back.

Thank you everyone for the quick and informative responses. If I stop in Moab I will either take my Jeep or rent one for the day.
I will post pictures when I return.

If you are staying in Moab and have an extra day I would suggest to also visit the "Island in the Sky" section of Canyonlands National Park and/or Dead Horse Point State Park. Both are close by.

This would probably require another trip but with a Jeep you can explore the absolutely stunning (and very remote) backcountry for weeks.

The KOA is on the south side of town.
I do remember one or two rv parks on the north side and just south of the river.
I didn't notice any jeep rental locations.
They are probably on the main hwy.

My son and I have used the campground twice. While it is an excellent camping spot it is not large and likely will require reservations. Arches is one of the great National Parks. Terrific majesty, hiking interest, and great shooting opportunities!

If you have a Class B RV, those were driving all over the park.

Unless you have a very large RV you can drive it just about anywhere you need to go both inside and outside arches NP. what I would suggest though is to locate one of the many BLM campgrounds between the Colorado River and Hwy 128 just north of Moab. much less expensive and infinitely more beautiful than anything in Moab. You might even get so see some bighorned sheep across the river from hwy 128. Some hiking is required to get close to some of the more spectacular arches inside the park but nothing long and in any case the Jeep isn't going to add much to you trip unless you are going somewhere else that has some off road areas. The attached image is from hwy 128 near Moab utah

I have not been there in the winter. Could and should be a lot less traffic.
If there is a lot less traffic, you might make.
The big tour buses drive around in there. I don't know about everywhere.
I don't know what the Park Rangers might say....

I was there last year in December, a bit cold and windy at times, actually most of the time, however, very little traffic so you shouldn't have any problems. For the most part the park rangers are very nice and helpful. Along with Arches, Dead Horse Point and Canyon Lands Ntl. Pk. are very beautiful, different and it would be a shame to miss them when you are so close.

Have a great trip and post some pictures when you return.
