I have to say that i am BLOWN away with all yall,,,i have spent more time on here reading and learning i feel i need to send everyone a christmas gift,,,lol

But my question is,,,,i am looking for a lens to take pics here at the beach,,,,(pelicans diving, shrimp boats, sea gulls and the such,,,,,,i just purchased a Nikon D5100 last week,,,and it was the bundle package with a 18-55mm vr zoom NIKKOR lens as well as a 55-300mm vr zoom NIKKOR lens.....i took a few pics yesterday evening and now no how bad i need a tri-pod
I looked on line for a lens and the price on them blew me away...
I have a friend going to Thailand next month so maybe he can purchase me one there at a decent price (what i found on line was $1000 or more),,,,,your help and sugestions would be greatly Appreciated),,,,,i will add a few pics i took yesterday evening with the 18-55

Thank you for your help and Merry Christmas to you all

I commented on your other post...looks like you double posted....if you own a 55-300mm, why are you looking for a telephoto zoom lens ?

We all feel your pain! All of us must deal with the cost of quality glass. I would have to say that the old saying , "you get what you pay for", holds true for this as well.

Just get the best you can afford.

Also, not sure on this, but what you get in Thailand may not have a US warranty. Which means you may have to send it over sees if there is ever a problem. ??????

Beachlover, I like this photo the best. That looks just like my old schnauzer. She died 3 years ago, sure do miss that old dog. Thanks for the great pictures. Doug
