Have just received The Canon 6D. My main concern was that going from my crop sensor 60D if I would lose anything with my bird photography with the 100-400 Canon IS L lens. Here are my first results. ISO 800, f8 @ 1/800 RAW image, hand held about 1/2 hour before sunset. Comments appreciated.

Great shots of a magnificent bird. Looks like you have 3 keepers there.

Thank you for the nice comment.
Looking at it closer I think I am seeing noise at the 800 ISO. Have adjusted the noise control slider in Aperture and that seems to help. Will reduce ISO in the future to see what that does.

I am considering a 6D so this is interesting to to me. The "first crop" appears to have halos along contrasting borders indicating it was over sharpened or something.

I did sharpening and may have gone overboard in PP. In picture style I set it for "standard" and moved sharpening up 2 levels. I may have gone to far with my corrections and need to back off. All part of the learning curve. Thanks for the comment.

What is your opinion so far of the camera?

I have several Canons and in my opinion the 6D produces the sharpest images of any Canon body, bar none. DXO Mark even ranks it above the 5D MK III.

Interesting. I really don't want to pop for the MIII but was considering a factory refurbished when the IV came out. The other bigger issue noise at higher ISO levels. Did the comparison you mentioned cover noise comparison?

CAM1017, given your exposure of f/8 and 1/800, why did you use ISO 800?

Unless I was expecting the eagle to fly aware unexpectedly, I would have gone to f/5.6, 1/200, and ISO 100. At the distance you were shooting, you should have been able to focus accurately so that depth of field would not be much of an problem.

I'm a little surprised you are seeing that much noise at iso 800. I'd be curious if you have compared this with your old crop sensor camera....

Of course you might have dropped it a bit-- perhaps by half? I'll have to check some of the technical tests re: the noise factor at this iso

Good shots. You'll be happy with that camera.

Yes #2 is a good shot, would have been excellent if not for
the noise.

I'd be curious to see the unprocessed shot from the camera. The noise and sharpening doesn't seem right for a quality full frame camera and I am wondering if it is the over processing as you say you are learning.

I am on the early part of the learning curve setting up the camera for settings. I have gotten a lot of good advice so far. One of my main problems has been going overboard on adjustment in my Aperture processing program and backing off on my Iso settings when I really don't need higher numbers.

There are other issues on how I processed the images in my Aperture program that I need to work on. Its not the camera or program that is the problem. Its how I am doing it. Plam to work more on this over the Holidays.
