Ansel Adams didn't photograph sports at 1/2000th shutter and f2.8. He photographed landscapes that really didn't move quite as fast as Rocket Ismail or Deion Sanders.
The issue was not which lens is better for sports use, it was which is "better for serious use".
Agree. However most action shooters turn off IS, chose the smallest f stop to give good depth at a fairly high shutter speed. Frankly, autofocus is too slow. Shutter lag is one thing I can't tolerate. Some shoot bursts - spray and pray. So how about jets? move fast enough? This was shot using manual control.
You can get some good shots using automation ... I'll just get a higher percentage. PS It's OK to like your Cannon.
There is only you and your camera. The limitations in your photography are in yourself, for what we see is what we are.

Obviously my foot is not bigger than your ego ...
it is sad that you pay more attention on filling blank spots (like missing name of the author) than trying to understand the meaning of what is said
and BTW it is said by unknown author .. just so you know
In this jungle of numbers how does an older D200 Nikon stack up?

It's built very solid, but it's sensor is old, before the hi ISO world that the D3/D300 introduced us to.

UW, when I was going to get into digital, the 200 was my dream camera. Several newspaper guys I knew shot then, and I couldn't wait to get one.
That is a very nice camera. If you shoot good light, the ISO will never be a problem.
Yes, it's getting a little old, but can produce as good a shot as the new stuff, if you give it the right conditions, and keep the camera in its comfort zone.
If your specialty is birds, it will show its weaknesses very quickly, and you'll work very hard for good shots.
For everyday shooting, it's great camera.
Have fun

Here is my opinion on the Nikon VS Canon nonsense. Pro photographer A knows the canon 7d and the nikon d7100. flat out cold. ( I am not saying they are identical ) I seriously doubt that even he would be able to say that picture X was taken with one camera or the other. Will you like the d7100 yes. Will you take better shots than comperable cameras made by canon, sony, pentax, olympus, etc. No.

Um, I was thinking the very same thing. Can't be I said. SS only praises Canon. How could he say something positive about the "other" side? Maybe we've entered an alternate universe. Yes, that's it, we've entered a worm hole...... ;)

RB, do not try to adjust your TV set, you are not in a worm hole, for you have just entered the TwilightZone.

I had my Canon rebel EOS T3i stolen a couple of weeks ago and am considering a Nikon D7100. Will I be disappointed?
Its a great camera and is far superior to tour T3i, but it is much bigger and heaver than your T3i and if you still have any lenses or flashes for your Canon they will not work on the Nikon. The Nikon is almost at the semi pro level and I'm sure that a number of pros have one as a back up body.
