The moon again...

Hello
In my endless pursuit of photographing the moon, I purchased a 55-300mm lens. Below are my latest ‘Moon Shots’. I am having a hard time focusing…and the images also come out pretty dark. Please comment and critique so that I can improve (or develop) my technique.

Thank you!

The first two look acceptable. The others look at least one stop under exposed. You could bump up your ISO (I usually shoot moon around 400), open your aperture (not good if you're trying to capture foreground images also), or slow down shutter speed, (last choice). Hope this helps

Full moon shots are hard to do as there are no shadows to help pull out the craters and texture. Even really good ones look blown out. Try shooting a partial moon and you will find it much easier and in my opinion more pleasing.

I have the D5100 and the 55-300 mm lense. To shoot the moon I use manual focusing. I find when using Auto, the focusing just dances around.
