Improving Picture

I recently took a picture of our grandchildren while visiting them but was disappointed at the way it turned out. Biggest issue was the smudges on the glass fireplace screen. Using PS I think I improved the picture and made it much more pleasing. Any other suggestions?

Great shot and a very good try and improvement, the only problem is that even though you applied a blur to the layer it looks flat and has no dimension. here is an edit of your picture.

Nice save, and a lesson well learned. One needs to pay attention to the entire image, not just the main subject. I do have one question though. . .who is the person that is seen walking through the fire???? :?

Well, considering the time of year, it could be Santa checking on whose naughty or nice.

Actually, I didn't see or think "cat". I thought more "Devil" or "Wolf". . .but was thinking it was maybe to much of a reach?
