I am just curious about school. I have been taking pics ever since I can remember BUT....with no idea of what I was doing. I still have no idea, but have a little better knowledge & this forum has been great. I'm still at a novice level but I wanna learn all I can, do the best that I can & was just thinking about taking an online course.
Any thoughts?

Several on here have recommended New York Institute of Photography, but I hear they are a little pricey. There was another thread about a website where you can get lessons for free. I can remember it right now. I will have to go back through and look at some of my bookmarks to find it. I looked at the first lesson and it really gave me some things to think about. Let me see if I can find that website.

That's it! Thank you! I guess I didn't bookmark the previous thread I read that this was talked about it. I will bookmark this one though so I don't forget again.
Thanks Pete, checking it out now ;)

I think you should save your money for camera & gear.
Make a list of 5 things/type of images you want to know more about today. Might consider something you can do with your current camera.......
There is lots of info on the net and Utube. Concentrate on what you can do with your camera. Make a little money...
Create your own assignment list to go out and shoot.

Good advice Pat ! When I get "photo block", I set little assignments for myself....it helps !
Thanks Pat! I do have a nice camera bag, just got it this year, so that's done. I am gonna keep saving for the camera of my dreams. I have one in mind but still not 100% sure - so I'm keeping an open mind, I might find another I like better.
Not sure about the assignment? Would u be kind enough to give me 1 idea & then I'll go from there. Thanks.
It depends....tomorrow I might decide to look for shadows and concentrate on shooting those for a day. Next day might be macro day. Next day could be bokeh day. Then I might have a landscape day, a bird day, and on and on....

Any friends with babies? Natural light images from window. Get pretty good here, might be able to make a little money (camera & toys).
Couples portraits (outside). If you get get under a cover, this could create directional lighting to sweep the face. Get good, there is the money factor.
Live close to water? Boats docks and sunsets.
Street photography.
Store windows at night.
Night shots.
Practice panning with...cars, bicycle riders.
Public parks....dogs....
Girl friends with cameras? Pose for each other
Experiment with the different settings.
These have been recent posts about getting a blurry backround with P&S cameras.
Look at different images here on UHH.
Great ideas from nyweb!!!!
