Help in importing photos elements 11

Problem importing photos to elements 11. I shoot both in raw and jpeg at the same time. I rename all my days shoot with that days date . When I do rename both raw and jpegs files get same name example 1214-2013 . When I rename like this the files get sequential numbers (1214-2013 (1) 1214-2013 (2) etc. The raw file and the jpeg file get the same sequence number. If I view the raw file in elements 11 it matches the picture of the jpeg file. When I import many raw and jpeg files in elements 11 the sequence numbers do not match the jpeg and raw picture. Any ideas what me or the program is doing wrong??

You don't say whether you are using a windows or mac computer. When I load into elements I get all the raw pictures first which in my case are labeled nef since I use a Nikon camera, and the jpgs second. Since they are different file types they have different numbers. I am using an iMac.

I just went and shot some pictures and when I loaded them in elements. I found that using the default settings on elements you get the .jpg then .nef in the first picture then get .nef then .jpg in the second, then get .jpg then .nef. It alternates like this all the way through.

Most of the time I start with Nikon transfer and when I do that the nef files are the only ones to transfer.

Yes I get that same alternating sequence on the files. But even worse now in my pictures(which is where I download my pictures first from my camera) since I date all files the same date the numbers one for raw and the same for jpeg the picture in the jpeg vs the nef file is not the same. As you know I can't view the raw file in my pictures only when I import to Elements.

That is why I don't use anything but Nikon transfer to download my pictures. It saves the .nef files first and the .jpg files second and it labels them as whatever I enter in the file name and then it gives me a chance to name a sub folder as well. I always use the place I took the pictures in as the file name. I also I will if there are different places on the card label them first with the date then in the sub folder put the place name and sort my pictures accordingly.

Then when I decide to PP I just upload the sub folder with the name & the .nef files to edit. Then save the edited file with a different name in a different folder. That way my original .jpg is available to compare with my edited raw file and see which I like better.

I download my photos direct from Nikon D7000 to second hard drive, as a backup. Viewing them as saved files does show jpeg then Nef alternatively.

To scan through them fairly quickly I have Picasa 3 installed, (free). Click on a photo to view and all others before and after become visible as thumbnails along the bottom of the screen.

Hi, everyone, please help me cause I truly don't understand.
As far as your problem I don't have a answer to how to help with your number system. This is my question: Why bother renumbering your files to the date? I use the file name right out of the camera. The date doesn't tell you anything about your image, nor does the file name out of the camera. Can you tell me what images were taken on 02/12/2010?. I can't either. If you want to locate your photo, use tags, folders, descriptions as needed. I want to find all photos of Rockymountain Elk. So I put all these images in a folder of Fauna, then a sub folder of Elk, then a sub folder of Rockymountain Elk. I also tag them with a little more detail, like snow, in sunsets etc. I don't care about the date I can find it in the MetaData. I do not want to have to go to different dates to find the Elk image, when they could be several years worth. If you want to just save the images then any way is fine. I want to edit, send, print cards or calendars of subjects that I can find. How do you find the Mallard Duck photo taken two years ago?. If in folders and sub folders It can be found in just a few clicks. Also I don't have to tag each and every Mallard Duck photo with a tag.

I do things by date because I want to do it that way. It works for me and I use it. I also save by year at the end of the year. I take all pictures taken in 2013 and they go in a folder on a backup drive. That drive is then put in a fireproof box and placed in a safety deposit box at the bank. I also have 2 external hard drives that backup weekly(1) & monthly(1).
