I visited High Island, TX. last April and got took so many shots I haven't taken the time to really look at all of them until now. Here are a few of the nesting egrets I though you might like to see.

Great shooting :) :) :) is that with the 400 2.8 or the 100-400 I have both as well the 2.8 being a bit heavy to keep up.

Who is your avatar?

It is the 400 2.8 and I also have the 100-400 which is much easier to hand hold. The images above were taken with the 400 2.8 with a 2X converter mounted on a gimbal and tripod. The avatar is me on the bow of a bass boat on one of my Backwater Tours. Taken by my partner.

I have the series one 400 2.8 and it is quite heavy to hold after a few minutes. I have a 2x but have not been happy with the results, I have tried to re-calibrate the camera with the 2x on the lens but is still a bit soft and it does slow down the focus speed.

My avatar is my tripod with a device I built for managing the 400 lens for BIF It helps a lot as it allows me to track the birds flying toward me, and make it a breeze to hold the lens over my head as they pass by.

Superb job, Gary! Would you care to share some tips on shooting with a 2x converter?
