An interview with greg vescuso,

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
About eight years. I was traveling around the country in a semi truck and wanted to take some good pictures of all the great places I had seen, so I bought a Canon digital Rebel.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
I have not had any formal training. In the past few years I have been interested in people photography and have found I really enjoy shooting weddings.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
Back in 2008 when I was on a layover in Washington D.C. while at Arlington National Cemetery there was a cherry tree in full bloom in the middle of the cemetery and the image taken that day really moved me. So during this weeks challenge I entered that image and Steve removed it because it was not shot during the challenge. Thank you Steve for making me get out and take some pictures. So I went to the local Veterans cemetery and that is how that shot was inspired.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
Used a Canon 5dII with a Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8
The camera was set at f/2.8 @ 200mm ISO 100 Because I was wanting to blurr out as much of the image as possible in camera to express the ultimate sacrifices made for our freedom.

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
Not a thing!

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
I have a very fulfilling day job that I am challenged daily with.

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?

An interview with firtree,

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
First off, let me say Thank You. I am in shock but also elated. I have loved photography ever since I was a kid cutting animal pictures out of magazines. I have had and used a lot of cheap cameras over the years, but I only recently (about three years ago) had the opportunity to purchase a couple of decent cameras and really concentrate on taking better pictures.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
Short of a couple of very helpful, online photography classes, no formal training. My hubby and I started bird watching about three years ago, so I take a lot of bird pictures and landscapes.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
My Uncle. The challenge was "Freedom". I took one look at my Uncle's old photo and his burial flag next to it and knew I wanted to share him, his 35 years of proud service in the Navy, his recent passing, with the folks here at Ugly Hedgehog.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
Here is the ticklish part. My camera is a Nikon Coolpix P510. Yes, it is a 'point and shoot', but it sure beats my daddy's old Brownie (my first camera). The setup was more trial and error than anything. Simple background, the right lighting, and trying to angle myself out of the reflection on the glass and the flag into it.

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
Yes. I probably should have waited for better lighting. I didn't want to use a flash because I don't like the feel of it in a photo. However, I was excited about the challenge and wanted to be able to play.

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
I would love to be able to just run around and take pictures. However, I am not even close to that, so I am a full time Dental Technician/ Laboratory Owner.

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
Actually yes. I have a small site on Viewbug and a site on Pixoto. Both sites run challenges which get me out of my comfort zone and make me try other types of photography and techniques.... much like the challenges here.

An interview with Tpharm,

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I've used a P&S most of my adult life taking our children and travel photos. Since retiring my wife and I travel more and we have 2 grandchildren that play team sports, almost year around, so this past March I bought my first DSLR, just before our Netherlands river cruise.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
No training except that fine website UHH.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
My wife suggested taking shots of our neighbers' dogs having their almost daily "playdate".

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
Nikon D3100, Tamron 70-300 with shutter priority.
Hope to keep shooting as long as I can.

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?

An interview with SunnyB,

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I have been into photography at least 45 years. My first Kodak Instamatic got me started.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
I did darkroom work at my job and later computer color correction. I photograph what I like, mostly animals, flowers and landscapes.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
My son is on Whidbey Island, WA in the navy, and my husband and I went to see him. They were having a Pearl Harbor dedication at the navy museum, and we both went. The Pearl Harbor survivor grabbed my attention right away.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
My camera was a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS19, a point and shoot.

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
If I had to do it again I would take my Nikon dslr, but while we were up there it was raining and cold, so I had my Panasonic.

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
If I couldn't do photography I would quilt and do colored pencil artwork. Also I would continue to read up on photography.

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
I will post more of my work on UGG. And speaking of UHH, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the UHH members for taking their time to help other members with questions and problems. I have learned a lot, and I know others have too.
