I thought I found a discussion this morning on lightweight super zoom cameras....but now I can't find it. I'm looking for the biggest zoom, and still lightweight...help or recommendations anyone?

The one in a different color maybe the thread you are looking for...

This one may fit the bill...

I just bought a Sony hx100v, and also considered the p500 and sx 40. All very similar. Got a good recommendation at the camera store for the Sony
Haven't used it a lot yet, so no reviews. Going to Africa soon, so will test it there.

May not have the longest zoom, but I still like the versatility of the Canon G12. Look at www.dpreview.com.

If you are getting a real long zoom get one that has a viewfinder. you need to be steady and your face along with your arms acts as a tripod.

just try holding a 140mm+zoom about 10 inches from your face and holding the camera steady.

Just a suggestion.

The Sony switches from the LCD screen to the viewfinder automatically when you look in the viewfinder. Kind of cool.

Thanks everyone. I already have a 5D so I was hoping to get a "pocket" camera. I don't think I'm going to have a lot of luck with big zoom AND raw. But I do appreciate everyones help.

I don't know about you, but I would never take a camera on a trip without testing it first. This goes for all my equipment.

Look at the FujiFilm HS20EXR. 30X optical zoom raw and raw+jpeg. I have it and love it. I also have a previous edition the S100FS a 14 optical zoom. You can see some of the pics I took with these cameras on flicker at 2 Dog Don user name or my real name Don Hague
