trying my hand at street photography

I was downtown yesterday having work done on our van, so while I was waiting I decided to go for a walk and try out street photography. Our town isn't all that big, so there wasn't a lot of people out and about and it didn't help that it was below freezing, but here are a couple of shots that I did get.

I really like the first one, it has that small town feel to it. Thr second one is cool to, its as if hes walking into the unknown . From the bright to the dark.

I like the second one a bit better than the first. Both are pretty nice, though.

very nice - obviously it's much warmer there than it is here. LOL I will have better luck when spring comes next year, but it was a great way to kill time while waiting for new tires to be put on the van.

Not bad!
I think the first image could have been better if you would have cut off less on the bottom while composing. The main subject's feet end right at the bottom edge of the frame, and shovel is partially cut off by the image edge. A little more space on the bottom would have made a stronger, more professional-looking image. Actually, a vertical shot of the scene (with the main subject in the center) would have worked really well. There's a lot of stuff on the left that doesn't contribute anything positive, such as that car that is dominating the left side of the composition. Less of the car would have been better, and a vertical shot would have done just that.

I like 'em both, they show a slice of life as it's happening. Being in b&w helps a lot also.

I think you're on to something with allowing more at the bottom, but as far as the left side, I like it as is. I wanted to get the entire rear of the truck in. I appreciate your opinion though. Thanks for the input. BTW, is there such a thing as professional street photography?

Thank you. I shot in color, and converted to B&W. I prefer street photography in B&W, but done right color works in the right situation.
