I have had this photo forever, since 2006. It is one of my favorites, especially since it was taken with a 6Mpx camera. ( Olympus HSC - H2). I have been working on getting the blown out areas toned down, but have not ha any luck. You may tinker with this picture if you want, post your results, and C&C in general is welcomed.
Stormy clouds, and rays of sunshine.
Just no detail left in the blown out areas

Thanks for the comment and working on the picture. I rather thought that the tree, clouds, and rays of sunlight would have been the details, that is why I put the horizon so low. What you did to punch up the sky and rays looks great. I suppose you are right about needing more detail, I hope I will have a chance to take this shot again some day.

Beautiful photo, I love the clouds and sun rays. I gave a try at recovering detail in the blown out areas. I did get recover some and made up what I couldn't retrieve. I ran the photo through Topaz restyle and came up with this image.
OK, I cheated a bit. I used the magic wand tool to select pure white, and everything within a tolerance of 2, then I used the Color Picker to choose the brightest (off)white that wasn't in the selection area, and used the bucket tool to dump this color into the selection area. It's still bright, but not blown out. However, in later edits, it seems to have assumed a pinkish cast (or maybe purple fringing, I couldn't figure out how to remove it). It DID add a little more detail to the sunlight, so I went with it.
Variant on Summer Storm Landscape
I am curious as to how taking it with a particular camera makes it a favourite?

At the time I took this picture I was just getting my feet wet into digital and had been a LONG time since I had taken any film shots. (Hated film, had to pay for film, then after taking the pictures, had to pay to get developed, and since I had NO knowledge of what I was doing at least half of those pictures were just plain rotten.) This picture represents one of the first times when I actually understood what I wanted to capture, and even though it wasn't star quality, it was what I actually saw and wanted. So I did the dance and "WHOO_HOOed all the way home. I like the edits that have been posted, but they seem a little over cooked to me. Anyway I do appreciate the comments and hope my posts will improve as I continue shooting and posting.
CajunPhotog, I admire you for being so honest and humble.

I like it a lot Bob, I didn't even think to adjust the hue or temp. It does have better detail in it now than before. Thanks for working on it.

I didn't spend much time on this but if it were mind I would probably try something like this. It would be a painstakingly time consuming process for me.

I like the Fstop12 image better (great job, Fstop12) but here's my shot. Got the blue from the tiny area of sky at top right, made a selection around each bright area and painted with the blue. Too fake to pass.

Thanks Shakey. I was merely showing a very quick way what I would attempt to accomplish it is in no way completed.

Thank you for showing us what can be done. Would you be kind enough to explain your technique?
