Took a photo trip to the Wyoming Bighorns last year. Made a detour thru the S. Dakota Badlands on the way and took a few pictures there also. Below are two from the Badlands and one from the Bighorns. Was lucky enough to catch a minute or two of alpenglow in the Badlands at sundown.

Nicely done...did you layer out the sky in the B&W? ;-)

Great shots. Number three reminds me of Ansel Adams.

Thanks for the comment. These are sort of a half HDR process in which I combine the standard HDR exposures into a 32 bit image, then edit the 32 bit file using ACR and Photoshop rather than Photomatix. If I plan to do a b&w conversion, then I increase the saturation a bit then use either the Photoshop conversion (my favorite at this time) or NIK Silver Effects Pro, or a combination of both. For some reason, the current Silver Effects does not seem to work as well as it did pre-Google. This particular image had a nice blue sky which was very easy to darken in Photoshop.

Thanks for the nice compliment John. Maybe I need to show a couple of my Rancho de Taos images ;-).

Thanks RedArrow. Ha. No, it's the Bighorn Mtns, NE Wyoming. Never saw a single sheep during my five days there tho, not sure how they got the name.

Could we see the last one in color? Like it a lot.

Hi Jean, Thanks for the comment. This is a color version. I think it's kind of blah but it's the best I could do. It may be oversaturated a bit because I typically do that before converting to b&w.

Would taking this photo in monochrome with a blue filter in camera give a similar result? I've darkened a sky that way but I know most photographers would rather take it in color then convert. I'm just curious about whether in this situation it would give the same result. I love the photos by the way. All are gorgeous.
