Hello Everyone,

I have a Canon 7d and the battery meter reading is not working, whenever I put fully charge or usable charge battery on my DSLR there's always an error message saying “Cannot Communicate to Battery”. I did try to remove the door compartment of the battery, I even remove the LP-E6 battery (I got it from Mr. Google) wait for more than 20 mins and still not working. One other thing I notice it drains my battery if i leave it onto my DSLR for overnight. I called Cannon regarding this, but you know what next.

FYI, my camera still working if I use it, the only thing worries me is that I don't know when my battery needs to be charge.

Anyway, Help! need to fix this its annoying issue.

Thank you for your time and Have a wonderful Season!

Is it a OEM battery. Had the same problem with off brand batteries in other devices.

Hello Everyone, br br I have a Canon 7d and the b... (show quote)

I've never heard of Mr. Google, and when I Googled it, nothing that looked like Photography or Canon, came up.
But it makes me think that you don't have an original Canon battery but rather a knock-off.
After you click OK on the screen you showed in your image, can you access the serial number of the battery? See page 232 of your camera's manual. If there is no serial number, it makes me think even more that it may be a knock-off battery.

The screen warns that it CAN'T communicate with the battery.
How's it supposed to find that out if it can't talk to it?

And, YES, it sounds like a counterfeit battery.

A very common issue with non-OEM and/or counterfeit batteries sold online. Buy from reputable dealers and you won't get stung on batteries.
The camera will often still shoot with many of these, just not communicate to give you remaining life information.

Maybe not counterfit but probably 3rd party. This is common when not using non Canon branded battreies. There is more than just batteries in that battery pack. There is a chip in there too.

The camera is warning you that if you use that battery yuor battery indicator may not be accurate and your battery may go dead when you least expect it or maybe it will be good when the camera says it's dead. Really no way to tell since they can't communicate. ;-)

You should know the difference between counterfit and 3rd party. Counterfit will say it is an official Canon bettery but it isn't. 3rd party will simply be another branded battery. 3rd party batteries are usually safe but you are risking equipment damage with counterfits.

Hello Morning Star,

I sometimes call Google, Mr. Google, sorry about that.

Anyways, I have 3 original battery for my canon camera, I got 2 DSLR w/c is 60D & 7D that's why I got 3 OEM batteries.

I did try using them 3 (since same battery size) and still the problem the same. And I did try the one you told me to check if I can access thru my DSLR re checking the serial number, I cant access it, since the camera cannot communicate with the battery.

I did also check the page 232 of my canon 7D manual via pdf and nothing there, sorry I dont have the book manual anymore, cant find it.

Please check my batteries if its a knock-off battery.

Thanks for your time,

Ram

Ok that means the reason why 2 original batteries cannot communicate with my canon 7D.

How come if I use it on my 60D works great.

Anyways, thanks for your time.

Actually, I'm thinking they ALL are.
I don't see any holograms.

And Canon says that the LP-E6 is one of the top 10 most counterfeited items under their brand.

The question I haven't seen asked or answered, is: Did this just start? Do they work OK in another body?

It is very hard to tell from your photos. Did you change the order when you flipped them over?

Did you buy these from an authorized dealer? One certainly doesn't look like the other.

In photo 1 the logos on 1&3 appear off but it could be lighting or my monitor.

In photo 2, number 2 looks like counterfeits I have seen. I need to look at my battery when I get to it.

I would call 1-800-OK-CANON and tell them you believe you have counterfeits and get their help with identification. You don't want to use fakes. they could blow up or catch on fire.
