Tried a moon shot tonight BUT ...
It looks more like a slice of bread pudding!!
I don't know if your Canon has "Live View", but it is invaluable when trying to focus Moon Shots. You would switch to Manual Focus to use it, and look in your user's guide to see if you have a 5X and 10X magnification function in one of the buttons. If so, go to 10X, Manually focus in the LCD screen until it is tack sharp, then squeeze off your shot, hopefully with a Remote Shutter Release Cable. Your camera should definitely be mounted on a tripod to reduce any motion blur, the remote cable release will do the rest. Usually, you will end up with a shutter speed that is too slow for hand-held.
Don't forget the moon is lit by the sun and does not need a timed exposure. Ensure your flash is off (as this will give the camera wrong exposure info) and try it on Auto. It is best that you use a tripod to hold the camera still

Thanks Bob - did think of using live view but only run out at the last minute before it disappeared and I am somewhat addicted to using the viewfinder. I did use a sturdy monopod but next time will try your suggestions - - I do have a wireless remote that triggers instantly or with a 2 second delay. Thanks again for looking and commenting.
Nice try Rathyatra you did well there,i was told,if your using your tripod make sure you turn your steady shot off and also if you have a UV filter, remove that as well.

Hi Angler
That was one thing I forget - although I did know it - should have turned off IS when using the monopod.
Don't now use a UV filter after all of the advice on this site.
Practice! Practice! Practice! my now familiar mantra lol!!

Not to bad at all Rathyatra. And if you are just starting to play with Moon shots it is pretty darn good. As the Moon gets fuller it is harder to get the details. That is why the edge is blown out. It is a changing lady every time you try. But a fun one!!! You don't want to know how many I have on the hard drive.:)

Thanks Erv - It is the magic of capturing an image from an object so far away - I will keep trying following the good advice I have picked up on UHH

What camera did you use, and what's settings? The moon is not really very hard to shoot. Maybe we can all help, but we need to know what you're doing, and with what.

Hi Dievon
Camera Canon Rebel t3i
Tamron 18-270 lens
Settings: Focal length 270mm
Aperture f.9
Shutter speed 1/160
ISO200
Auto WB
Auto Focus
Settings on manual
No exposure compensation
Shot handheld with IS.
I took about 30 shots with various settings and this was one of the shots that at least looked half decent.
