You woke me up for THIS?

He is so cooperative. First his eyes were closed. Then he was moving around, rubbing his face against a box. Then, of course, he had to turn around and look out the window. Finally, he gave me a baleful glare.

He's a beauty but I wouldn't want to get on his bad side.

Actually, he really doesn't have a bad side. He just looks the part.

We've had three black cats at different times. All were as sweet as could be. They seem calmer and more affectionate than other cats.

Most of our cats have been black. We had one, a black Siamese, named Nike, 'cause she was an unguided missile. Also, definitely not sweet. Scratched my nose and cut my wife's eyelid, though I had warned her not to hold Nike close to her face. An evil animal, but lots of character.

I guess a lot depends on their early socialization as kittens, but we got our last black cat, Sparky, as a tiny puffball at the pound. He grew to be 16 lean pounds in his prime, and was the gentlest and most affectionate animal we ever lived with, dog or cat. He lived for 17 years. I'm tearing up a bit remembering him as I type this.

Most of our cats came from shelters. There used to be a pet store in town, and the owner gave us a bluepoint Siamese kitten which had had ringworm. She couldn't keep the kitten long enough for the fur to fully recover. He used to sleep in our daughter's crib, and if she needed anything, he came and fetched us. We've also adopted some strays. I think the Evil Black One was the only cat we actually paid for. What does that say?

For grins, I've added a film noir version. "Le chat noir." He looks absolutely murderous here. :)

That's how he looks, but you'll never know what he thinks except for trivial things like "feed me now". The mind of a cat is a mystery.

Caught in the moment. Would never guess there was a nice side with that look. Your patience paid off. Well done.

Patience? Luck would be more like it. (The other five shots of blurred face, headless neck, and back of the head are in the trash.)
