Looks like with the other lenses you already have I think in the long run your going to be happier With a 2.8 verses a 4.0 of the same range. The Tamron has had great reviews but the Canon 24-70 2.8 is a L lens.

I have ordered the 5d and I am looking at getting a 24-70 lens. I am trying to decide between the Canon 24-70 f4L IS USM and the Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 VC USD. Will the 5D the low light capabilities make up for the loss of several steps going with the canon? Both are about the same price. I have not used either of these lens or the 5d yet. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

With everything you have, it's too late to cut back based on cost. :-)

The 5 center AF points only work as double cross-type AF points for f/2.8 and faster lenses. These can autofocus with diagonal patterns.

But you also want the best IQ you can get from the lens, because the 5DMkIII will expose any imperfections.
