Took this picture last year while visiting Hawaii. Had the privilege of talking to several survivors.

I was just a baby when Pearl Harbor happened. My Dad enlisted and was on a carrier a few months later. This memorial is like the Vietnam Wall. You can't fully grasp or understand the terrible loss they represent. Thanks for sharing the photo.

You're welcome John. It was a privilege to visit Pearl Harbor and to experience the tribute to the brave men and women who served there. Your Dad was a hero.

I corrected the uneven horizon in Picasa, but it did not upload in the corrected mode. Sorry.

Very nice photo, worth working on.
After you have worked on it in Picasa, if you want to be able to send the 'edited' version to anyone you have to either "SAVE" and replace the original, or do a "SAVE AS" and save the edited version. Otherwise the edits are viewable only in Picasa since they are NonDestructive edits until you SAVE the end result.

A very timely post, KW. Fewer and fewer of our WWII vets are left.

Thank you Warhawk. I was not aware of that.

Thank you Steve. Those WWII vets are heroes who saved the world.

I was stationed at Schofied Barracks in the Army when this memorial was commissioned in about 1961 or so. Elvis was asked to come and perform for the charity... as I recall, he did.

Yes he did. As a matter of fact, we were told that Elvis donated a great deal of money for some of the improvements that have been made to the tourist area of Pearl Harbor.

I was almost 4 on Pearl Harbor Day. One of my uncles was in the Navy and I know he was stationed at Pearl Harbor some time afterward. We did not discuss the matter ever. I've been to the Memorial twice and do have some photos. Perhaps I''ll post some of mine to UHH.
