The title pretty much says it. I am on a Mac 10.7.5. I know I could adjust every picture in each program until it comes out right, but I am looking for a fix in the printer settings: The Canon site shows nothing that helps.
If anyone has had a similar problem, and has fixed it, I would be very happy.

Thanks

From what I'm finding, apparently a wide-spread problem. Not saying a one-solution fits all, but check/clean your printer nozzles ensuring proper color flow & mix, and one soltution(which worked for op) was to un-install/reboot/re-install printer drivers. Hope it gets sorted.

I bet the experts tell you that you have to adjust your monitor. Get it matched to the printer. Then, if it looks good on the monitor, it should look good on paper. I've never felt the need to do this, though.

I have an older Pixma 9000 and when I got it I had to take the whole set up (Mac Pro, 30" monitor and printer) into our local computer store that specialized in Apple. Had them calibrate everything and it worked great. No longer have that set up since moving into the motorhome, but my iMac and much smaller Canon printer do ok and I haven't had to have anything calibrated.

But the picture on the monitor matches the real object perfectly, so what I am seeing on screen is accurate.

Well, that's a good sign. So the printer is doing what it's supposed to. It's just a matter of changing the settings while taking a picture or changing the appearance after it's taken.

Actually, just the opposite: the printer is not matching what is on screen.

Aah, a whole different kettle of fish. So it's actually the fault of the printer, which is printing darker than it should. And you're using Canon ink? Does the paper selection in the software match the paper in the printer? You're printing on the correct side of the paper? It's only red that's affected?

The biggest problem is that everything is too red.

Two things to consider that are often overlooked when prints fail.

First is relative vs perspective and the other is switching color spaces. Both are software problems that are easily user adjustable.

In troubleshooting this problem, it would be helpful to get a few other bits of info from you.

1 is your monitor calibrated? If not, what looks okay on your screen may not be accurately showing the color data in the file. The file is what the printer is reading. If the monitor is way out of calibration, what you see and what the printer sees are apt to be quite a bit different.

2 what paper and ink are you using? If you are using third party inks and/or papers, the default profiles provided by Canon may not be accurate for your file. If you are using a third party paper especially, you should be using the ICC profile provided by the paper's manufacturer.

3 are you printing from a program such as Photoshop or Elements? If so, you need to set "Photoshop manages color" in the print dialogue box, rather than printer manages color

Knowing this info may help us help you.

I have a 9500 on an iMac as well. If things are set up properly, you can get very good, accurate color in your prints.

Since the screen image is a very accurate reproduction of the item itself, I doubt if that is a significant problem.
All of the other suggestions will need examination, but I have never had a printer that was SO far off in thr rendition of the colors.
My bottom line complaint is that my wife's $69 printer is doing a better job that the 9500, which costs ten times as much. In addition I have been unable to get ANY assistance from Canon, and it appears that the excess red is a fairly common problem.

Had a Pixma 9000 which gave everything a magenta cast. No matter what was done with what program, a magenta cast. Had purchased a service contract from CompUSA along with the printer. They replaced the printer.

I have owned a number of printers and I have found if there is a color cast it is usually caused by the paper or one of the ink cartridges is plugged. I would try different paper and run the cleaning cycle a couple of timer.
