Hi folks. I'm looking to upgrade my camera and my skills. I now have an old Canon point and shoot. With a budget of $300 what would be my next step. I shoot mostly family shots and would like to improve my skills and the quality of my photos.

Hello budmankp
Welcome to uhh forum
as far as a $300 budget goes you may want to consider a used camera or if you want to stay with a point & shoot .
One thought comes to mind a canon sx 50 about $375.00
dollars. A lot of members on here give this camera super reviews. this is my suggestion more members will chime in to help out. You only have supplied limited information.

Hi budmankp and all. Another newbie of sorts here. I've always taken pictures since I was a little kid. But it's time to really learn. I have a Canon EOS 1000D with an EF -S 18-55mm lens. It takes great photos, but I'd like to learn to shoot in RAW, use aperture priority, exposure, etc. Can someone recommend a good all around book for a beginner in these matters? Thanx all.
