Great Portrait!

Our son developed Type 1 when he was eight. I feel your concern. He is 26 now and healthy as a horse. Diabetes treatment and management is fantastic now. Your granddaughter will be able to enjoy a very normal life!

Lenf, I am a Type II diabetic, and it is something we learn to live with. Find a good endocrinologist, they can make a world of difference. She will have to understand that when others eat birthday cake with ice cream, that she may be able to eat a small piece of cake without the icing and the ice cream. A hard decision for me to make, but considering the alternatives, a choice we make for our long term health. I guess it is easy to eat those things and inject more insulin, but the wiser decision may be to make smarter choices and live longer and healthier. Best of luck to you and her, I am hoping and praying my grandkids do not develop the disease.

You may want to review the American Diabetes Association website for more information. They have a book about raising a child with diabetes.

Oh by the way a great image, and best of luck. Gary

Both are very beautiful , the way you composed the photo , and the young lady in the photo . Photos like this make me cry . I never had any children and was never married . But I tell all my friends if I would of had any children , I would want it to be beautiful young lady like your grand daughter . My prayers to her and your family . May God find a way to help her thru out her life . Thanks for sharing a special memory in your life . I just love it beyond words ,Tommy

Lenf, I am a Type II diabetic, and it is something... (show quote)

Thank you Gary for the wonderful link to the books site. The JDRF we work with and other children who have type 1 have been a great support to our family.

I wish your grandaughter the best in coping with the diabetes. That is splendid photo of her. She has lovely color hair. Being a grandpa myself I know how tough it is to see the young ones ailing. You wish you could take their burden but that isn't in the cards of life.

Beautiful photo of a beautiful little girl! Love the lighting! Hope she'll have a long, full, life! So glad they have ways of treating this. Diabetes runs in our family (I have it!), and my cousin's grandson has Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes and has been wearing an insulin pump for a long time.
