I'm experimenting with different moods and techniques. Although the subject wouldn't normally go with this method, I intentionally subdued the colors and darkened the scene. It is not intended so much as a portrait, but as a social statement showing a little girl, fatherless, starting out life in one of the poorest barrios in Honduras, and facing a very uncertain future.

Comments welcome.

I. Love. This. The lighting on her is luscious. Her expression is a heart-stealer.

I IS a portrait...and a wonderful one.

Thank you so much for your kind comments. She is such a happy and well-mannered little girl. It saddens me greatly when I think of how she's in "Wonderland" at the moment, but soon she'll be forced, like Alice, to awaken to the realities of the world. :-(

I agree . It is perfect . I am a true believer that the eyes are the entry point to the soul when it comes to photos like this . They allow you to feel the pain , the happiness , the sadness , the sorrow , etc. of the individual . It does make me cry to know there are many children world wide that are in need , and rather the governments trying to help them . They spend billions on ways to destroy each other . What a sad world we have made for our selves . Thanks for caring , and sharing .Tommy

Kubota, A great point - the billions spent on countries killing each other instead of the families that just want to live in peace.

She is such a precious little girl and you captured so much emotion in this portrait. Her eyes really draw you in. I love it.

I am dead serious; I keep looking for a marquee across the bottom telling me where to send my donation to.

In other words, you hit the mark dead on!

Hahaha, I'll send you my PayPal number!

Seriously, I thank you all for your nice comments, though I was not intending it to be a charity poster.

I am glad it came out as well as it did, and I'm truly flattered by the reception here. On a personal note, my wife and I are by no means wealthy, but we're better off than just about everyone here. We try to help this little girl and her mother in whatever ways we can, as well as the other little girl, Alessandra, in another thread. We don't have to, but it's nearly impossible not to help when we look at some of the situations here. They have never asked for anything and are truly grateful for whatever little we can do. If I go broke doing so, it was for a good cause.
