Hey splitload,
Meta Data, also known as Exif Data, is a standard that specifies the formats for images, sound, and ancillary tags used by digital cameras (including smartphones), scanners and other systems handling image and sound files recorded by digital cameras.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exchangeable_image_file_formatThere are several ways to look at it -
On a PC you can
- Right-click on the image
- scroll to the bottom and choose Properties
- In the new window choose the Details tab
It is similar on a Mac
Within a webpage you can install an Extension or Ad-On
For example, if you run Google's Chrome you can
- add the extension EXIF Viewer
http://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/exif-viewer/mmbhfeiddhndihdjeganjggkmjapkffmWithin UglyHedgehog you can now click (
Download) when an image allows it
- Then right-click and choose Show EXIF Data
* there are other choices of course
Another way is to look within your post processing program
For example, if you run Google's Picasa
- right-click on an image and choose Properties
- left-click on an image and click Alt-Enter, or
- left click on an image and choose the Picture Menu then Properties, and
- at the bottom-right click the i icon
* there are other choices of course
Of course there are Exif Viewers too
You can Google a list, but a popular one is
- Picmeta System's Picture Information Extractor (or PIE)

Your next question should be, "How Do I Use Exif Data?"
Cheers!
