META Data

I have seen several references to checking the meta data or other information from the photos that are posted on the forum. How do I get this information? When I download a photo all I get is the photo, how do I get the data?

There are several exif viewers available on the web. If you use Google Chrome as your browser, you can add the extension found here to your browser.
http://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/exif-viewer/mmbhfeiddhndihdjeganjggkmjapkffm
Then you right-click the image and select show exif data.
Hope this helps.

On Windows based computers, after downloading and saving the picture, just Right-Click and then go to Properties/Details and any EXIF data in the file will be displayed, but some have already had that info stripped out so it will not always show up.

I don't use Chrome.
I use this link.
http://regex.info/exif.cgi
Takes a few steps to get to the info.
The post on UHH has to included the "Download" option.
Not all images include the exif data. Most do.
If you choose to use this site, I or someone will explain the steps.

Hey splitload,
Meta Data, also known as Exif Data, is a standard that specifies the formats for images, sound, and ancillary tags used by digital cameras (including smartphones), scanners and other systems handling image and sound files recorded by digital cameras. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exchangeable_image_file_format

There are several ways to look at it -

On a PC you can
- Right-click on the image
- scroll to the bottom and choose Properties
- In the new window choose the Details tab
It is similar on a Mac

Within a webpage you can install an Extension or Ad-On
For example, if you run Google's Chrome you can
- add the extension EXIF Viewer http://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/exif-viewer/mmbhfeiddhndihdjeganjggkmjapkffm
Within UglyHedgehog you can now click (Download) when an image allows it
- Then right-click and choose Show EXIF Data
* there are other choices of course

Another way is to look within your post processing program
For example, if you run Google's Picasa
- right-click on an image and choose Properties
- left-click on an image and click Alt-Enter, or
- left click on an image and choose the Picture Menu then Properties, and
- at the bottom-right click the i icon
* there are other choices of course

Of course there are Exif Viewers too
You can Google a list, but a popular one is
- Picmeta System's Picture Information Extractor (or PIE)
http://www.picmeta.com/products/picture-information-extractor.htm
* there are other choices of course

Your next question should be, "How Do I Use Exif Data?"

Cheers!

Use it as a starting point, but know when the light changes everything changes with it.
