Good series. Too bad the last one would have been spectacular if the wings had not been cropped.

He just got too close. With a 500mm prime, you can't zoom out!

Thanks to all of you for your kind words. Conowingo Dam is really a special place. I try to get there 2 to 3 time over the course of the winter. Most of the Eagles are younger ones with less experience feeding themselves. When the dam is generating electricity, fish get drawn through the turbines and are injured. This leaves them easy prey for the Eagles, as well as Cormorants and Great Blue Herons that gather there.
Saturdays and Sundays in November and December are known as Million Dollar Weekends because of the huge number of very long lenses lined up along the River.

John, I certainly have days when the birds and the weather don't cooperate but the fact is that when you have mastered the technology and you know where the birds are then it becomes a matter of selecting the most aesthetically pleasing shots from among the technically correct images.
I don't want to sound like I am bragging, but I came home that day with around 250 possible keepers out of 600 or so shots. I try to pick out the ones that have something special about them. My goal is to make pictures that engage you, that make you smile, educate you or move you in some way. Do I always succeed? No, of course not. But, if I was easy, it wouldn't be as much fun.
Thanks for your kind words!
