I found that the focusing is much slower when I use "Live View" than when I don't. There is also live view quick, but the subject doesn't looked focused on the screen. Has anyone else experienced this problem. Thanks for your expertise.
Yes, there is a technical reason for this which I can't recall well enough to try to explain.
Much slower focus is certainly true, but if you wait it out until the rectangle turns green it is in focus.
I have a Canon 50D. In live mode if you focus in manual mode you can magnify the on screen image by 10x as well as zooming in as far as you can(if you have a zoom lens.) this helps focusing
Generally I use Live Mode only when I have the time to manually focus on something that's not moving such as a flower.
Sometimes when I have the time I will use the viewfinder and autofocus then turn off auto focus, go to the live mode and manually focus using the 10x mode.
With most of my shooting, which is action shots, I only use the viewfinder.

Focusing is slower because it uses a different method for live view. About half the time, my 60D does not focus accurately in live view. I consider it MANDITORY to use manual focusing when in live view. I really like live view for scenics when using a tripod because the mirror is locked up.
