I have just ordered a Canon 5d Mark iii. I got it mainly to use for landscapes and low light shooting. I was wondering if anyone has used it for sports and what results they had. I have a Canon 7D and will be keeping it.

I have both of them. The 5d does 6/sec I think, which is still pretty good. I've been inclined to use the 5d indoors / low light because I can shoot @ pretty high ISO's to keep the speed up & not worry about the grain.

I have and used it ever since it came out and I'm happy with it. Used it for sports too and like the results, not as fast as the 7D, but faster than my 5D MII and yes, fast enough. AF is awesome. Adorama as well as B&H are selling the MIII now bundled with the 24-105L, 32 GB card and camera bag for $3499, a very good deal!

Amazon had it as low as $2799 yesterday for a body only. I had it in my cart before backing off ... I promised myself nothing more than $2500 and I was thinking it would need to be a refurb at that price but yesterday was new ...

I just ordered a 5d mk iii yesterday and will be pairing it with my 7ds. I'll be watching for the big brown truck on Friday.

The 5Diii and 7D are a great combo. I use the 5D to go wide and the 7D to go long but in low light, I am favoring the 5D more and more. For BiF I tend to favor the F/S of the 7D as long as the light is good and I can keep the ISO at 400 or lower and still shoot around 1/500 sec or faster.

I was/am several yrs with a 7d and now added a 5dm3 to the mix. Shooting high school football from the sideline. I would start with the 5dm3 using a 300mf4 and on the 7d a 70-200 2.8. As the light faded and the field lights took over, I would put the 70-200 on the 5dm3 and put the 7d away. I am very pleased with both as they each have a pro for depending on what I am doing. I think it key to have lenses to compliment each camera.

Thank you for your reply. I have the same lens and that is how I planned on using them.

Why not just put a 1.4X on the 70-200 with the 7D , and when the lighting fades take the TC off.....or, leave it on and switch to the 5D. ? Here - http://www.ormsconnect.co.za/2012/03/image-quality-comparison-5d-mk-2-vs-7d/ - is a good comparison of the two formats/bodies .....

I've gone that route as well using the 1.4x, but what was nice about having two camera (at a football game). I wasn't in a fixed location and by having two bodies with me I was able to have each one set for diff light on each end of the field. Shade from the bleachers on one end, bright sun on the other. As that changed I had settings ready for the run from end to end. For what the resale would be on my 7d or even my 50d for that matter I can't see parting with them. I've been able to teach my the younger nephew about shooting and maybe planted some seeds with him a future photographer. I must add , you can't beat the crisp colors of the 5dm3 and the high iso when the lights came on and the field was dark around the edges.

My 5DM3 is suppose to be delivered today. I "have" to be out of town and will not be back for several days. What a bummer.
