Hello, I have Rebel XT and wish to upgrade with a newer SLR camera. The Cannon Rebel XT is about 10 years old.Are there any place (s) which buy old SLR cameras (for refurbishing) for cash or trade? Please let me know. Thanks!

Two, welcome to the Hog.
You might get more for it if you buy a refurbished body from Canon and used your Rebel as a trade-in on the loyalty program, depending on how much you spend on the new one. Look on the Canon site, shop.usa.canon.com, for a refurb body, then call Canon and ask If that body is on Loyalty Program, and ask how much trade in you might be able to recieve. They are supposed to be not working, but they don't check them.
Good luck

At KEH you can go through the get-a-quote dialog that will give you a quick idea of what you might get selling this old body.

You won't get enough for that camera to make it worth while to sell. If you have any people in your family that want to start photography gift them.

$36.50 acceptable.

That is with the 18-55 lens

Check with Canon (note they only have one N in their name). A few years ago they had a loyalty program where one could trade in one's old (Canon) camera for a new (Canon) one. It was a great program; made buying a new Canon so much easier and less expensive to buy.

Definitely check with KEH. I have sold several pieces of camera gear to them and they have paid very fair prices. They are a very good source for used equipment as well.

Don't forget Adorama and B&H. They are probably the two biggest internet dealers.

Because of its age you are not going to get much for that camera, you might want to consider keeping it for a spare.

I don't imagine that you will get more than $40 for it.
I still have a D60 that I use for backup to my 50D.
