Went to Bethlehem Pa. this weekend to the Sands casino and some craft fairs. What I found most fascinating was the old Bethlehem Steel factory. Lots of history there, many railroad tracks, ships and even parts of the Golden Gate bridge were manufactured there. They are trying to revitalize the area and doing a good job of it. I can't help but think about all the men and woman who walked through there and helped build this country. Hope you find this interesting.
I have a best friend that lives within shouting distance of the Mills. She does a good job winning at the casino also!
Your photos capture the area very well. thanks

Interesting set Sue, there must be a thousand great pictures in this place, really good set

Good series, really shows the age of the mills well. A shame they've been left to go to rust and ruin.

Thank you amyinsparta! Maybe I should have found your friend, then I would have had better luck in the casino too! :)

Thank you for commenting, Geoff! I would have loved to get even closer but I was with a group of people and also I am not sure how close they let you get. But I agree, there must be sooo many great pictures in the guts of that factory!!

I agree Treepusher. I wonder how someone who dedicated their livelihood to that factory feels to see it. I only hope they feel better when they see the atmosphere around it changing for the better! :)
My first "real" job was at Bethlehem Steel in Sparrows Point, MD. Huge plant and everything was coated with iron oxide, which is a dirty-looking red. Had to walk a mile from the clock house to my work building. My uncle worked there over forty years.
Knew many people that worked there all their lives. It is closed also from what I understand. Such a waste.
I remember sitting in a car at a distance and watching those steel mills run at night. Very colorful with all the molten metal and steam. Nice photos.

Thank you for looking, larrywilk, I appreciate your first hand input! 40 years is a lot of dedication!
