Do any of you give photographs as gifts? If so, I wonder how people like receiving them. A frequent joke on sitcoms is the mother who gives her children a framed photo of herself as a gift.

I've given calendars with photos of family members, and I'm working on one of a friend's dog. They seemed to be well-received.

Hi Jerry...I too have given calendars in the past and I just took advantage of a couple great sales and made up a few for this year.
I really like the calendars to give because one usually gives them to people that they mean something to. Then you are giving "memories" and that's a good thing!

Also, I just ordered my first canvas prints. (More good sales.) The owl eyes that were a topic in here about a month ago...I hope it will be a good Christmas gift!

For Fathers Day once I gave my dad a picture of his Grandfather and one of Him and his Dad when he was still in a stroller. Both pictures were originally B&W that I had colored with Photoshop. He really liked both of them and even asked me send a copy of the Grandfather to his cousin. I'd say the right photo could work very well.

I think I might try to print a calendar myself. I'd use photo paper for the photo on the top and cardstock for the calendar on the bottom.

Jerry, I say go for it!! Most time, it takes a bit of time before the recipient truly appreciates the portrait, but the day will come when they can't look at it without having fond memories of the person who gave it to them.

Jerry, for the past 4 years I have been giving photos of my children, to my children, of memorable moments and or expressions. It's a blast watching them open them up and seeing the expression on their faces when a forgotten moment is remembered, along with the comments and joy it appears to bring them, they really appear to enjoy them. And yes, they do get hung up. However phots are not the only item they are presented with.
Never thought of a calander tho! good idea

I gave photo mugs to my grandchildren (15,14,13 year olds) last year. I used a collage of photos I had been saving during the year. They loved them! The girls started taking photos of some of the photos with their phones to send to their friends.

Of course now I have to do it again this year, they are asking for the mugs! Those and some cash make it so easy on me.

I made a photo book of family history going back to 1857 with old restored pictures that may get lost later. I had 8 copies made to give to primary families and will send a pdf of the book to their children when they ask for it.
Another time, I made a quick photo book of my wife's poetry, one page of my pictures, one page of her poetry, throughout the book. Made this for her birthday.

I like this idea! I do genealogy and have a lot of old photos. I hadn't thought of putting together a basic photo book! Thanks!

Everyone seems to have some really good ideas and better yet some great experiences with their gifts. I have given calendars in the past. Love the idea of the dog. My daughter would love a calendar with her cats on it. Hmm...that might be an idea for next year.
Good thread!

So far everybody I have given photos has been very happy. Last year I gave six family members a scrapbook loaded with old family pictures. Some of them dated back to the 1800's.

For this year, I am scanning pictures for my children. When I get them done, each one will get a disk. They know I am doing this and are very excited to have a digital copy of their childhood pictures.

I have taken pictures of pets, children and events and given them as gifts. Depending on the person's preferences, I have given photo books, shutterfly books, scrapbooks and framed photos. They make a nice personal gift.

This year I am working on four more ancestry scrapbooks for another family. I have found other family members on Ancestry and gotten even more pictures than they know about. Hopefully, I will have them done b-4 Christmas.

I worked in collaboration with my son on a calendar. We went through each month and put in birthdays and anniversaries of our family members. The photos on each month were of various family events that took place that year. I don’t recall where he had them printed but after the gift opening part of our evening was over and everyone was sitting around chatting I noticed that everyone was going through the calendar laughing and reminiscing about the events of the year. We had more comments on that calendar than any gift I can remember. It was a lot of work but also a lot of fun and gave my son and me an excuse to spend some time together over the summer.

Jerry, I give all the kids very large photos of myself for every occasion. If ever I make an unannounced visit, and the photos are NOT prominently displayed, I STOP PAYING THEIR RENT !!!!
I give photos for house warming's and as hostess gifts all the time. I have never NOT seen one put up. I only give them for Xmas, if they are photographers. Sometimes I've had photos requested as a gift as well.
