Review it and you may want to try it. They are quick and reasonable.

...and they have sales quite often. Unless you're working on a deadline, put a book together and then wait for a sale.

So how important are one's skills in post processing when creating a book? I have almost no meaningful experience in post.

Would now knowing this make any difference in which company you might recommend for me?

You need to process your images to be printed, not to be shown on the web--- Probably they will need extra sharpening and lightened-- Try printing some to see how far you need to go!

Other than a little cropping on a few, we've done no post processing.

If you are on a Mac, iBook Author is the way to go, and it is free!

I was notified that the 30 page hardcover book I ordered on Friday from Blurb was shipped this morning. That is fast service for this time of the year. Yesterday, I found you can do an e-book that is done similar to a printed book BUT you can add video to it. I'll have to try this sometime.

So what kinds of costs are we talking about when creating a book? Just ballpark it. I know there are lots of variables. Perhaps you could elaborate a bit on the books you've made. What sort of features did yours have, and what was the cost? Hardcover, soft cover? Paper quality? Number of pages? Stuff like that. That would be real helpful right now. Thanks.

I did two recently. One was 30 pages that had 72 photos with text, hard cover with full dust jacket, 120# paper, 8.5 x 11. Cost with a 35% off coupon, including shipping was $26. 59 and I ordered 8 and this included a pdf file ($5.00) of the book.
The second book was mainly photos and I did it from start to finish in about 2 hours. I had previously picked out the pictures which take me a long time to do. It was of our Alaska adventure trip just for us. 8.5 x 11, 30 pages, softcover, standard 100# paper, 1 copy, shipping=$21.54 with 25% off coupon.
I've done a 2 quick books with Ritz locally done in 1 hour, 7x7, cheapest method, soft cover, coupon 50% off, $16.50. not nearly as good as Blurb, but quick.

Many in here recommend Blurb, BUT you can get so much better image print duality and a better paper with SnapFish , plus with lower price.
I had use both of this.

jerrylh,

Those prices are way below what I was expecting. How often can one say that about anything these days. By 30 pages, do you mean images on both sides so actually 60 sides? Or 15 actual pages with 30 sides?

Sounds like I just need to stop worrying about all this, and "just do it".

And like you, just rounding up the images that I'd like to print will be an enormous task. I have tons of photo CD/DVDs spanning several years on which are the images I would want to include. But maybe I should make my first book of images taken on a recent trip to the Southwest. At least those are still in the computer and quickly accessible.

I'd like to attempt to make a nice photo book. Must be able to have pictures on both sides of each page. And MUST be easy to put together. My techno abilities are very limited. No, you don't understand. VERY limited. So what sources do you recommend for a book-newbie; where I can get a good product relatively easily. Thanks.

Excellent results with Blurb:

I seriously doubt that you can get better quality than Blurb!! If you get poor results, it is an exception and they would most likely make it right for you!! Their work is VERY professional!!

   I agree, their books are of high quality, I have used them on occasion (also did some wedding books there). I'm sure you'll like them.
