I saw an ad on the internet that offered to tell you how many times the shutter on a digital camera has been used if you send them a current image from the camera.
Is this information available to a user using his own resources?
What's the life expectancy of a digital shutter system?
Oops! That last question probably depends on a lot of things so strike that one, if you will.

You can find your "Actuation Count" yourself.

Go here: http://www.camerashuttercount.com

It says my camera doesn't furnish the necessary information.
Mine is a Panasonic FZ50 and is not on their list.
Many Nikon and Canon models are listed, among others.

Is your camera a DSLR, or other, like a P&S or "bridge" camera?
OP's camera is not a DSLR.

Dslr

The camerashuttercount site only works on a limited number of Canons.

The EOSinfo program is the only one I've found that will return a shtutter count for the 50d.

Good to know. I expect an eventual upgrade to include more cameras.

Finally I know what a "bridge" camera is! Who makes this stuff up? (rhetorical)

Thanks Nikonian72!

Ditto here. I contacted the developer and will post his response.

Having a "bridge" camera with similar features you find on a DSLR makes us feel better when someone asks us what we shoot with, not just "point-and-shoot".
When we get too big for our bridges we start looking for DSLR's.
