An interview with DavidT

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I've been interested in photography for approximately 40 years starting with B&W film.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most? No formal training.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
I tried to capture the long, late afternoon shadows in my backyard.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
I used a 12-50 zoom (@24mm equivalent) with a Panasonic Lumix GF1 camera (m4/3rds format) that was recently converted to IR.

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again? Not really.

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?

8) Why do you think your photographs win so often?

An interview with bob44044

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I started when I was in high school. And was a photographer in the USMC. I worked for a photography studio for about a year, but then went to college, got married, and gave up photography by the time I was 25. Took it up again when I retired at the age of 61.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
Just recently I took a couple of classes locally.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
Just like the shot, and took it.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
Nikon D7000 18-300mm Nikor lens

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
I would have used a macro lens

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
Play golf.

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?

An interview with Wiskydog,

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
First off I am thrilled to have won. I have been taking pictures since 1970. I started with those cameras that you drop in a film and scroll it along. Pocket size. I also had the one where you pull out the film and it develops by itself. I progressed to other styles and makes. I still have some of those pictures. My dad had an old browning, which I still have, and I wanted to take pictures like he did.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
I took photography in high school, loved it! I WISH I had formal training. I tried an area photography group but they were old and stuffy and I haven't been back. I may try it again in Jan but.. I don't hold much hope. I love the out doors. If its out side the front or back door, I want to shoot it. Trees, bugs, animals, birds, rocks, water, foot prints, clouds, rain ... what ever is out side

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
The park is amazing. There are so many places for inspiration that even choosing one to show off is an adventure. But the mist was unlike any other time we had been to this park. It was early in the day. The sun now is low here and sometimes just barely gets over the trees. But this day we hit it at the right time. The water was high in the river and it was cascading down and crashing on the rocks and creating this eery lonely place. With the trees being some 125 feet or so, the sun had created these shadows from the trees on the mist. Hence the picture.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
That picture was taken with a Canon PowerShot SX10, which had something wrong with it. I took it in but could not get it fixed so I replaced it with another. Most times taking pictures for me, there can be no set up. It happens in an instant. For me, that is the challenge. I find setting up a shot drives me nuts!

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
I think I may try framing it differently. Perhaps show more tree on the right and less path. The mist was VERY wet so holding my camera out in it for to long, was not good. But getting the mist for me, may never happen again as it has not been like that any other time we were there.

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
A host of things. Bonsia, work with wood, train people to work with dogs, train dogs in obedience and rally, teach people to ride... all of which I have done and some I still do to name a few.

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
Yes, my hard drive. ... all kidding aside.... not really. This is the first club I have joined that has anything to do with pictures. I have about 5 thousand pictures like most photographers and nearly every day, I add to that. I take 20 shots to get that one special one as every one knows, a good shot is not all that easy to have when its an instant of time to get it.
