Couldn't have said it better myself, sookie. The Vietnam vets were never properly recognized for their service. IMO, the politics definitely got in the way -- sad.
Funny thing Sookie. Been thinking. Ya know, when I arrived in Viet Nam in 1964 and had to travel on unsecure roads to get anywhere, the policy on ' combat pay ' was:
You had to have 5 recorded instances of being shot at and all of those had to have an officers verification signature on them to get $ 50.00 a month extra in combat pay. LOL
Second thing. In the Mekong Delta, our choppers had to fly over and drop leaflets when B52 strikes ( ArcLights ) were scheduled. They dropped leaflets 1 day prior to warn local villagers to avoid the area. I guess the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese Regulars couldn't read eh ?
Funny how thoughts pop up.
