Positive, Negative or The Same?

I played with this image of a footprint in the sand. I flipped the image 180 for the bottom part, and also flipped it from positive to negative. Amazingly, I still see the toes as if they still have a convex effect or come out toward me.
When you look for a while, what do you see?

Positive over Negative.
Positive over Negative....

I like the photos, but sorry to say, I can't see a difference. Probably due to my amblyopia, and monocular vision.

That's the point. The top half is a positive image, and the bottom half is that same image, but has been reversed into a negative. It was then flipped 180 deg.
Yet, like you, I keep seeing a positive image. I also see both as a relief instead of a track sunk down into the sand.
It baffles me how the eye can trick the mind.

Because of my monocular vision, I can't see what binocular-vision people see. Stereoscopic images are flat to me. Some 47 years ago, I took a medical discharge from the US Navy due to the final medical exam after Baimpressc and before A-School because my eyes couldn't pass the qualifications for my desired MOS, Photographic Intelligence. Bear with me...lol...to understand, you need know the story. They presented me with a book of images. Page after page I flipped, all were "negative". The photo that "sealed the deal" was the bee. When asked, "What is the bee doing?", my reply was, "What do you mean what is the bee doing?" It's just a bee.". The bee was supposed to appear as if jumping off the page into my face. I was given the option to change my MOS, or take a medical honorable discharge. I was pissed!! I'd been doing photography for 10 years. I wanted to stay in that field, but wanted more. I took my honorable.

I have difficulty driving. Using my left eye, I'm far enough away from those parked cars. Using my right, I'm dangerously close. My depth perception suffers without several points of reference(objects being closer to me). I have never been able to look at a photo and see it with any depth to it. Until now!! I took your image and cropped it to only the top, showing the original negative footprint. Then I inverted it(theoretically the positive image), and then looked at them side-by-side. On the left, your original image. On the right, the inverted, or "negative" of the original. For the first time in my memory, I can see the "raised" image of a footprint!! It has depth!! A sand-sculpture effect. [b]It's AWESOME!![image].

My question to you then, are you sure you saved your "positive" image, and didn't just use the reversed negative?

Mind tricks? Upon uploading these last 2 images, altho I can minute visible differences, the depth of the "positive" is now gone. Talk about frustration...lol

Try rotating the bottom image, not changing it from negative to positive or vise versa. Only rotate the bottom image clockwise 180deg. It will seem to change to a raised image instead of a sunken foot print in the sand.
I happened upon this effect while editing the image to try to get an artistic arrangement for presentation.
Strange indeed! :)

Did that and it worked. You really can't imagine the "thrill" it creates. Like the babe's reaction after taking it's first step, or realizing that that sound he hears, he made.

I also see both as relief.
