Oh, Graham. I'm just a mortal. I would not presume to critique your work. I will say that I think this image is very good. I like the way the light focuses attention on the work being done. A very good photograph.
Like this one of an old tradesman.
Good tonal rage and subject nice and sharp.
the light on the piece of work is spot on just enough and not overpowering. Would love to see the finished chair.
Nice light, nice vignette and perfect DOF to focus the eyes on the subject. Love the lines on the forehead. Nice work Graham.
Sensational, Sensei! A masterwork. Loaded with texture! I can smell the wood! The tonal range covers all 10 Zones. The light falls precisely on the work, which incidentally happens to be on one of the intersections of the thirds, which does lend additional strength to the composition. Everything that should be sharp is wire sharp, everything else falls softly away into darkness. The concentration of the craftsman is the concentration of the picture. Outstanding!

A picture HCB would have applauded! If there is anything wrong with this picture, I can't find it. Bravo.
Very nice. Love the tonal contrast.
The only distracting component of this image is that it lacks any distractions...wonderful photograph, grand work, sir.....
Nothing I like better than a picture of a craftsman at work.
I love how you have captured the draw shave near the end of it's stroke with the wood curling upward and the results of previous stokes settled on his lap. The gentle touch on the tool also says expert. I like his look of attention, but probably not intense concentration as he has done this many times before.
Looks perfect to me - interesting subject well situated in the frame with good context, tack sharp, wonderful light, a pleasure to look at multiple times.

Graham,
I was about to wax rhapsodic, but Then saw Chuck_893's superb entry, and so will simply say...what he said!
