I thank you for your service to our country. The problem is not with America but the idiots that are trying to run it into the ground.

You can't separate the country from its people. Your so-called "idiots" are us. Probably best to stop using labels to define people with whom we disagree -- divisiveness gets us nowhere but where we are now.

Yes it is about definition. We are way behind civilized nations in education, health care, infant mortality, etc. Greed has won.The corporations control politicians and the poor get poorer while our rich keep getting richer.Cutting food stamps for kids , letting our infrastructure deteriorate,on and on not to mention dysfunctional government that cares more about being re elected than the needs of its people. Those people living off the public "tit" are old folks, veterans and handicapped in the main..open your hearts and this country will be great again!

Larrymbst makes a good and real point about those "living off the public 'tit." They are nor parasites, but folks who have a real problem or have done their fare share and are older. Those abusing, as Florida found out with their drug test for aid regulation, found only a small percentage were doing so fraudulently. But such stories play well with the more conservative. Pork Barrel waste more than the fraudulent users do.

In Florida the number of positive drug tests was because there were a high percentage of previous recipients that did not participate in the tests thereby dropping out of the program, at least temporarily.

I suppose it depends on one's definition of greatness. I think whoever wrote the script for that piece hit it right on the head. We don't strive anymore. We don't reach. At least collectively we don't. I would also say that one cannot declare oneself great. Only others get to decide that. The greater I think I am, the less I am. The greater others think I am, the greater I am. Thus, I believe we have to get back to what made others label us as great. It's not a mystery, we just need some leadership and the will to start reaching again.

The current regime is doing all it can to make people dependent on government for what they need instead of being self sufficient and striving for personal success.

The "greatest country in the world" is a broad and sweeping
statement.

I reckon some countries are better for some things than others; but I'm sure you will all agree no one country is better at/for every thing than all others.

Down here we may have had the best coral reef, and it costs nothing for a consultation with a medical doctor. The landmass is so old though our "mountains" have mostly crumbled into the sea, consequently there are better places to snow ski... for example.

I would think that you being from Australia would see Australia as the better country. I think that it is about where one calls home. I would not / could not fault you for making the claim that Australia is the greatest country in the world just as I feel that the USA is the greatest country in the world. Sure, the USA has it's faults just as Australia has it's fault but from my prospective, The USA is the greatest. Maybe if I were born in Australia, and was a citizen there, Australia would be to me the best.

Good on ya!

Ive not been to every country (for that matter I have not
traveled out of Australia at all) so I cant draw a conclusion.

Being the best or not, I think I would fight to the death for the sake of Australia if need be... I'd fight pretty darn hard for the good ol USA too if called on.

I totally agree with much of what you have written here, I have had this clip saved to my computer for quite some time. I think all Americans who love their country should watch this. If you want to know is America great, ask! the rest of the world. You may be shocked.

I think the US is not as great as it was because of
irresponsible borrowing... too much debt... just a hunch.

Don't forget bowing down and kissing the ass of our enemies as well as making our military resemble the keystone cops as in don't fire even while being fired at.

You hit the nail on the head. Our leadership sucks. Mediocrity begets mediocrity and when you have so many millions living off the public tit there is no incentive to strive to better themselves or the country.

That is a very complicated issue Bro.

It may have something to do with the enemy not wearing a uniform... in the battlefield, makes it nigh on impossible to know
a civilian from a friend from an enemy from a criminal.

I reckon if an enemy is not in a uniform that identifies him as a soldier he is in fact a criminal not a soldier. As such it is a mistake to send the military to counter them. Police should be sent instead.

IMHO, instead of sending Australian soldiers to the 'stan the dickhead politicians should have sent the entire contingency of
the Victoria Police Force up there to play hopscotch in the mine fields. Loosing (US and Australian) soldiers to that fvcked up cause was S.E Asia all over again.

An enemy tho not wearing a uniform is still an enemy and just as dangerous as a sadistic person with explosives.
The head of any country has no business bowing down to or apologize for the action(s) of their own country. Nor are they to make deals or other decisions that puts the people of their country or an ally in danger, as in playing patty cake with Iran while Israel is on the front line scrambling for their lives.
The person that was put in charge of the U.S. has continually done all of these things.
I agree that the politicians should be in the forefront leading the troops into the danger that was brought before us. This alone may likely change the way things are done at the intelligence level if indeed there is any intelligence in NSA.
S.O.S. Kerry is obviously no better than Hillary the 'Failure' as far as being diplomatic. As far as they're concerned, diplomacy is blaming someone else for their screw ups.
The current regime has been very successful at removing accountability from themselves and the people that follow them.

We should aspire to get involved, make our representatives work for us not the rich and powerful.
=============================================================

That's the problem, WE THE PEOPLE, don't have the funds to 'buy' our legislators back, from the rich and powerful. We can can vote, and bitch till we're blue in the face, in the end, money and power always wins.
