I use Canon 70D, want to purchase wide angle lens for group photos and landscapes. I am considering two lens, am not sure which one to buy.
1. Canon EF-S 10-22, f 3.5-4.5 USM
2. Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-11. 11-16 f2.8
Appreciate any suggestions.

Go to http://www.dxomark.com and compare the lenses. I don't shoot with a Canon, but am looking at the Nikon version of the Tokina and it is a very nice sharp lens and fast.

I tried the Canon 10-22 and the Tokina 11-16, the f 2.8 is a nice to have, but I did purchase a used Canon 10-22, love that lens.

I have a Tokina 12-24 and it is sharp. And the 'Pro" line is their answer to an L lens. Didn't have to pay for the Canon name either. I'd go with that and the 2.8 constant aperture lens. No brainer.

The Tokina is ridiculously sharp and will seriously out perform the Canon in low light indoor shots.

Both lenses are top notch...you won't be sorry no matter which way you go...though the tokina is sharper than the canon.

But if it were me...i'd go with the faster one....the Tokina.

I have both Tokina WA lenses (11-16mm f2.8 & 12-24mm f4). Both are tack sharp. The 12-24 loses one stop (which I have never found an issue), but has a bigger range. I mainly shoot landscapes & prefer the 12-24 for that, but both are great lenses.

Thanks to all for the information. Looks like the Tokina will be a good choice.

It is nice when you get to pick from the greater of two goods. :-)

For group shots, I wonder if the Tokina is too wide, the equivalent focal length of 26mm at the long end. The Canon gets to 36mm. I use primes, and I prefer the 35mm to the 24mm for groups, since it looks more natural with less distortion, so that's the only source for this concern.

I would consider the Sigma 10-20mm Wide Angle f/4-5.6,
or the Canon 17-40mm f/4 L Wide angle Refurbished from Canon too.
