This guy is among a large group of scholars who see race not as a scientific fact, but a social one. It's an interesting idea that makes a lot of sense when you read about it. It's easy to take his words at face value and be aghast. But look a little deeper at what he has been saying:

"We do not hate you or anyone else for the color of her skin. What we hate is a system that confers privileges (and burdens) on people because of their color. It is not fair skin that makes people white; it is fair skin in a certain kind of society, one that attaches social importance to skin color. When we say we want to abolish the white race, we do not mean we want to exterminate people with fair skin(my emphasis). We mean that we want to do away with the social meaning of skin color, thereby abolishing the white race as a social category(again my emphasis). Now, asking people to commit suicide sounds pretty crazy, and I would be interested in seeing if what he said was truly what he believed, or if it was something taken out of context. On the surface it sounds pretty crazy, but I think this probably requires a more nuanced investigation than just citing a couple of lines from a speech.
