Ok, I'm hoping I can explain this and hopefully someone here can help me fix this.

I got Elements 12 in today so I installed it on my computer. It seems to work fine I have been playing around. Always before, when I had Elements 8, I could right click on a photo and select open with and Elements 8 would be in that list. The new elements isn't there when I right click on the photo and when I go to search for the program I want to open a photo with elements isn't showing as an option I'm allowed to pick. Is there some way I'm missing to set this back up so I can right click on a photo and then select to open with Elements 12 from there? I have Windows 7 on the computer I'm working with.

When I installed PSE12 it wanted to convert my old catalog for use with PSE12. Did yours do that?

No? I'm guessing that's because I don't use the organizer? I have always chosen to just catalog and organize my photos in folder on my hard drive.

I don't remember what part of the program wanted to do the conversion, but I let it go ahead and do it. I haven't experienced the problem you had, but when I upload photos now sometimes it is hard to find them. It makes a new folder every time and if you don't know what folder your photo is in they are the very devil to find. There's probably some way I can change this but I haven't investigated it yet. My Topaz filters did not make the transfer from 11 to 12. Got to figure out how to do that, too...

I think that's part of the reason that I never wanted to use the organizer. I think I tried to once when I first installed Elements 8 when I got it years ago and it completely messed with how I had my pictures organized. So I just deleted the organizer folder created and decided that I would just keep up with my own folders and then I could open them and edit them when I wanted and then save them back to the folders I wanted them in. I don't have any filters or plug-ins or anything to go with it so I didn't have that to worry about when installing and loading everything. Might have to worry about that next time though. Good luck I hope you get it figured out and get your Topaz filters back.

You have to move your Topaz Filters to the Program Files of your new Elements. Currently they are in PSE11 Files. Topaz have simple instructions on how to do this if you go to their web site. Here is a link for moving the Filters from 10 to 11. In your case just change the numbers to 11 and 12. http://www.topazlabs.com/support/kb/index.php?View=entry&EntryID=393

I use PSE12 and the link to the Editor is shown every time I right click on a photo in the Organiser. My guess is that Adobe has suppressed the link that you have been using. I think it is a shame you do not use the organiser as it gives a terrific way to access your pictures using Tags. I keep my Hard drive folders organised strictly by date order. But in Elements Organiser I can access them in as many ways as I have Tags, which is quite a lot. Takes a while to set up, but the effort is worth it

Maybe this will help. Set PSE12 as the default program for images.

Did you restart the computer after you installed PSE12?
I know that PSE doesn't need a restart to get it to work, but I found Windows does...
When I'm "too lazy" to open PSE first, then go hunting for a picture, I'll also often right-click and choose Open with...
If PSE is not on that list, click on the down-arrow on the bottom right hand side - on the line with Other Programs.
If PSE 12 still isn't there, click on Browse, then navigate to PSE Editor - (C:\\Program Files(x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 12\PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe
Clicking on that should do the trick.

Yep I restarted.

That is it though and that's what I was doing wrong! There are two folders that say Program Files and I was opening the one that wasn't (x86) so all I kept getting were empty folders. Thanks Esther that did the trick!!!

Yeah I had tried that last night and nothing was coming up when I clicked to set defaults. It said something about I had to do that from the programs itself. I have no idea what that was about. (I think I need to take some more computer classes to understand some of this stuff.)
