These photographs were taken yesterday and it was very cloudy. I would like for people to provide their opinions on what they think of the exposures of these images. The first photo was taken with a Nikon 70-200 mm f-2.8 lens with a 1.4 Teleconverter. The the other 2 were taken with a Nikon 500 mm f-4 lens. Arnold

I have to say, I like the effect on the first photo alot and i am usually a clean photo fan.
The pose and crop for # 3 are great.
Just goes to show those folks who stay indoors on cloudy days...what they're missing.

Very nice photos! Whats nice about a overcast day is softer shadows and more saurated colors.

The first one almost looks like a painting. The green Heron is my favorite of the three. I like the color and clarity. In my opinion the exposure is right on.

Arnold, I think you're on a roll submitting good photos! Are you and Gator in a competition with each other? My favorite of this series is the little blue heron....great shot!

Arnold, I vote for the Blue Heron shot. I love tack sharp images and have the 70-200mm VRII on my wish list. The 500mm is way down the line. I currently suffer with an AF-S 70-300mm 4.5-5.6G VR. Any advice for me? I shoot Gulf coast birds.

Country's Mama, Thank you very much for your comments. The first one looks like a painting because I had to crop into about 7% of its original size and I started to loose the details in the bird's feathers. Arnold

profpb, Thanks for your comments about my photos. Yes, my favor Nikon lens is the 70-200 mm. I had this lens for about 6 years now. I understand that the Nikon 70-300 mm doesn't focus very fast, especially when you have it zoom to 300 mm. I guess I need to know what problems you are currently experiencing with this lens before I can give you any real advice. If it is not focusing properly, try to manual focus on the bird you are trying to capture. What spot are you focusing on? I try to do it its eyes if possible. The ideal speed to capture a bird 1/1000 or greater and f-stop is f-8. Do you use a tripod when shooting at lower speeds? Arnold
